The 12 inch Ebony Venetian Art Craft vase lamp with it's sand finish began as a clear glass vase which was painted a uniform black color on the inside prior to the paint being fired on. After the process was complete the sand finish along with the gold band at the bottom of the base were applied to the outside.
The sand pattern on the Ebony vase can vary greatly in design as well as color. The sand decoration can vary from a gray that blends into the lamp to a white that is quite pronounced. The vivid white finish is more desirable in the eyes of collectors. The amount of the sand finish can vary as well, from being quite sparse to very dense. Since the finish on the outside was applied by hand, each lamp is really one of a kind.
